Warnings CAUTIONS AND WARNINGS: To be taken only on the advice of a physician. A probable association exists between the use of coated tablets containing potassium salts with or without thiazide diuretics and the incidence of serious small bowel ulceration. Such preparations should only be used when adequate dietary supplementation is not possible. Stop use if abdominal pain, abdominal distension, nausea, vomiting or gastrointestinal bleeding occurs. Consult a healthcare practitioner before use if you are suffering from a kidney or heart condition. Where impaired renal function exists, the use of potassium supplements must be monitored closely. CONTRAINDICATIONS: Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Stop use and consult a healthcare practitioner immediately if you experience numbness of the extremities, muscle weakness, paralysis, heart rhythm disorder, low blood pressure or confusion. Do not use with other supplements containing potassium or with potassium containing salt substitutes. Do not use if you have gastrointestinal ulceration or an obstruction, if you have adrenal insufficiency or uncontrolled diabetes or if you are taking any prescription medications, especially those which increase potassium levels such as potassium-sparing diuretics (distal diuretics) or angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. The use of potassium supplements with potassium-sparing diuretics (spironolactone, triamterene, amiloride) may lead to hyperkalemia. KNOWN ADVERSE REACTIONS: Can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal cramps. Stop use immediately and consult a health care practitioner if these symptoms are severe.
