For the treatment of metabolic alkalosis. Treatment or prevention of hypokalemia (potassium depletion) which does not result from dietary deficiency. Used for the treatment of digitalis toxicity and as potassium replacement therapy or as an electrolyte replenisher. How to Use DOSAGE (Adults): Take 1 tbsp (15 mL) 2-4 times daily. Dilute in at least 250 mL of cold water or juice. To be taken only on the advice of a physician. Prescribing information is available to physicians and pharmacists on request. Take this medicine immediately after meals or with food to lessen possible stomach upset or laxative action. Warnings DO NOT USE IF SEAL IS BROKEN OR MISSING. CAUTIONS AND WARNING: Where impaired renal function exists, the use of potassium supplements must be monitored closely. The use of potassium supplements with potassium sparing diuretics (spironolactone, triamterene, amiloride) may lead to hyperkalemia. Not to be used following vigorous exercise or acute dehydration (unless administered with an appropriate balance of other mineral salts, e.g. sodium). Consult a healthcare practitioner prior to use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Discontinue use and consult a healthcare practitioner immediately if you experience numbness of the extremities, muscle weakness, paralysis, uncontrolled diabetes mellitus; or if you are taking any prescription medications especially those which increase serum potassium (such as potassium-sparing diuretics or angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors); or with other potassium-containing supplements or with potassium-containing salt-substitutes. May cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps; discontinue use and consult a healthcare practitioner if these symptoms are severe.
