Recommended use: Potassium supplement for the maintenance of good health. Potassium replacement therapy and electrolyte replenisher. Treatment or prevention of hypokalemia (potassium depletion) which does not result from dietary deficiency. For the treatment of metabolic acidosis. How to Use Recommended Dose: Adult Dosage: Take this medicine immediately after meals or with food to lessen possibe stomach upset or laxative action. Swallow with water; do not chew, suck or crush tablets. Prevention of potassium depletion: Take 1 Tablet 3 times per day with a full glass of water. Treatment of potassium depletion: Take 2 Tablets 3 times per day with a full glass of water. Warnings CAUTIONS AND WARNINGS: A probable association exists between the use of coated tablets containing potassium salts, with or without thiazide diuretics, and the incidence of serious small bowel ulceration. Such preparations should be used only when adequate dietary supplementation is not practical, and should be discontinued if abdominal pain, distention, nausea, vomiting or gastrointestinal bleeding occur. Consult a health care practitioner prior to use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Discontinue use and consult a health care practitioner immediately if you experience a numbness of the extremities, muscle weakness, cardiac arrhythmias, low blood pressure, or confusion. Consult a health care practitioner prior to use if you have kidney or heart condition. CONTRA-INDICATIONS: Not to be used following vigorous exercise or acute dehydration (unless administered with an appropriate balance of other mineral salts, eg. sodium). Do not use if you have adrenal insufficiency or uncontrolled diabetes mellitus. Do not use if you are taking any prescription medications, especially those which increase serum potassium such as potassium-sparing diuretics or angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. Do not use with other potassium-containing supplements or with potassium-containing salt-substitutes. Do not use if you have gastrointestinal ulceration or obstruction. KNOWN ADVERSE REACTIONS: May cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps; discontinue use and consult a health care practitioner if these symptoms are severe.
